Size: 40 x 29,7 cm.
Bio:
Nikoo Nateghian is born in 1978 in Tehran. She lives and works in Brussels.
Artist and researcher, Nikoo Nateghian is currently a doctoral student in Art and Art Sciences at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels (ARBA). She develops a whole reflection around scientific illustrations of the Islamic world. These remain a field of study little invested even though they constitute a subject which raises many questions and where many gray areas remain.
The simplicity and educational aspect of these illustrations is remarkable in more ways than one.
Nikoo Nateghian’s artistic project sets out to “revive” and “restore” ancient images with a contemporary vision. This production, influenced by medical drawings from the Islamic world, seeks to develop thought and imagination in the face of the general question of the “body”. It is a “dissection” or an “artistic surgical operation” which will represent the body from an imaginary point of view. This gaze offers a different picture of the body and of pain, formed from a “view of the mind”.
