This box set of 12 CD’s offers a fairly extensive panorama of what is commonly called Iranian academic music (as opposed to “folk music”). It gives to hear played by three musicians of great renown, the great masters of the classical tunes of the Persian repertoire: Homayoun Khorram (1930-2012), Jalil Shahnaz (1921-2013) and Amir Nasser Eftetah (1935-1987).
Recorded at the end of the 1970s by Karim Chamanara, only a few copies survived the revolution and were brought together in this box set.
They highlight the “music of the cities”, without vocals, improvised and played by a solo instrument in 12 atmospheres (in fact 12 Persian modes), but played by three artists who have transcended it and who still influence current Persian musicians.
Contains 12 CD’s and an explanatory booklet in Persian, English and French.
